ABOUT
Mikhail Williams is a Jamaican multidisciplinary artist living in Kingston, Jamaica. He is currently a first year student at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (EMCVPA), in the BA Arts Management programme at the School of Arts Management and Humanities (SAMH). He has successfully pursued Visual Arts at the CXC CSEC level and Art & Design at the CAPE Level.
He is keenly interested in notions related to gender, masculinity, identity, and the news media. These concepts are reflected in the materials chosen and the subjects within his paintings, sculptures, drawings and mixed media work. He is influenced by everyday issues surrounding the Jamaican perception of masculinity. Ultimately, he perceives that masculinity and gender versus sex is a persistent topic in his island and when one chooses to engage with these notions, we come to a better understanding of who we are as a people. |
